Most Popular Home Renovations And What They Cost
Whether you’re looking to add value to your house for sale or just want to enjoy your current space more, remodeling is a great way to do it. But which room is the best choice to remodel? Houzz just release their 2018 Houzz & Home study, which collected information from more than 72,000 Houzz users who renovated their primary home in 2017 to determine which spaces were the most popular remodel spots.
The kitchen remains the number one room to renovate. Twenty-nine percent of respondents remodeled their kitchens, with 83 percent of them believing it will have a positive return on their investment. The median amount spent on a kitchen remodel was $11,000, up from $10,000 last year.
For the fourth year in a row, non-master bathrooms come in as the second favorite room to remodel. Twenty-five percent of respondents said they redid a guest or other bathroom, spending a median of $1,000 on the project.
Taking over third place from family/living areas is the master bathroom. Up from 22.9 percent in 2016, 24 percent of respondents said they chose to renovate or add a master bath. This was one of the highest budgeted remodels, coming in at a median spending of $7,000, but 81 percent of respondents said they thought the investment was worth it and would yield a return.
Living /family room
Just behind master bathroom is the living and family room space, with 23.6 percent of respondents renovating this area in their home. This is the project that people tended to spend the most on, with a median spending of $3,000 on the renovations.
Coming in as the fifth most popular renovation is the master bedroom, with 16 percent of respondents choosing to redo theirs. The median amount spent on remodeling the master bedroom was $2,000 an increase of 33 percent from the previous year.
There are plenty of projects you can take on that will provide the highest yield for your investment, but if you’re looking for inspiration based on the most popular renovations, those are the top five!
